Artwork Guidelines

These are the rules for artwork being submitted to decorate the Guild homepage. Keep in mind that we reserve the right to turn down any artwork submitted to our page. The rules for our artwork is fairly restrictive; there are looser rules for submission to The Cry (the Guild's e-zine, currently on hiatus), and any artwork can be posted on the GryphBoard (under the proper forum heading!).

  • .GIFs are favored; preferably transparent .GIFs. Our current colorscheme is dark, but that may change in the future, so it should look good on any webpage. However, it doesn't have to match any particular colors -- drab or colorful, doesn't matter! (See the pictures on the index for examples of good transparent .gifs.)

  • The subject matter must be Gryphons, and can either be relevent to the page you wish to submit to (for example, a Gryph with a book for the Great Gryph Booklist) or general, and admin will select which page it will go on. The Gryphons can look like anything as long as they follow the general Gryph design (half bird/half cat, although half bird/half wolf, fox, etc. are probably okay too!). However, they can't be someone's character -- generic Gryphs only!

  • The picture must be no larger than 30 k, or 400 x 400 pixels. I am more likely to use small pictures, because they'll load more quickly.

Use the contact form to let us know you'd like to submit some artwork. You'll be sent more detailed instructions on sending it to us. Please include in your form which page, if any, the picture is intended for, the name you would like credited, and a credit link (e-mail, or URL) if you would like one. We are limiting the number of pictures per any page to two or fewer, so please take a gander at the page you're thinking of doing art for before starting your artwork.

We're sorry, but not all artwork will be accepted. Please don't take it personally if your submission is turned down; there is a limit on the amount of artwork we can use. Occasionally, we will rotate or change the artwork on our pages to give more folks a chance.

You will increase your chances of getting your artwork on the pages 100% if you follow these rules. Artwork that doesn't follow these guidelines will be automatically rejected.

All artwork will be credited to the artists on the expanded credits page, along with a link to their e-mail or homepage if they so choose.

GryphBoard Banner and Image Guidelines

These rules specifically apply to the banner and art at the top of the GryphBoard and go into effect for submissions starting January 1st, 2003. Both pictures are typically seasonal or timely. The image on the right hand side (referred to hereafter as the "header image") is also typically used on the index of the Guild homepage.

  • The header image must be a transparent .gif. Our current colorscheme is dark, but that may change in the future, so it should look good on any webpage. (Ragged light areas around the picture are cause for rejection.) Also, the image will be used on both the GryphBoard and the Guild homepage, which have two different color schemes (blues and greys, and reds and golds). No animated .gifs; they cause too many problems loading. Professional looking webpage style graphics are preferred.
  • The banner image can be either .gif or .jpg. An image that looks like a well-designed web graphic is preferable over a picture that looks like it was scanned in and cropped.

  • The subject matter must be Gryphons. The Gryphons can look like anything as long as they follow the general Gryph design (half bird/half cat, although half bird/half wolf, fox, etc. are probably okay too!). However, they can't be someone's character -- generic Gryphs only! Seasonal designs are preferred. Keep in mind the diversity of the Guild; not everyone celebrates Christmas, or lives in the USA, for example.

  • The banner image must say "The GryphBoard". The text should be rendered using a quality graphics program (unless you are extremely good with calligraphy). It should not have any other text on it.

  • The header image must be no larger than 30k, or 350 x 350 pixels. Small pictures are preferred because they load more quickly.

  • The banner image must be no larger than 30k, or 450 x 130 pixels. It should be rectangular, and arranged so that it is longer than it is high (at least a 2 to 1 ratio).

  • Before submitting the artwork, you must make a query through the contact form. Artwork and queries posted to the GryphBoard will be ignored.

Use the contact form to let us know you'd like to submit a banner or header graphic. You'll be sent more detailed instructions on sending it to us. Please include in your query what the artwork is intended for, the name you would like credited, and a credit link (e-mail, or URL) if you would like one.

We're sorry, but not all artwork will be accepted. We can only use a couple pieces of artwork on the Board per season; please don't take it personally if your submission is turned down. Artwork submitted well ahead of the season it's intended for and the more appropriate and graphically pleasing the art, the more likely we will use it.

Artwork that doesn't follow these guidelines will be automatically rejected.

All artwork used on the Board will be credited at the bottom, along with an e-mail or URL link if the artist so chooses.
